STAR/Config provides a simplified interface for specifying required network and remote host settings and a robust test feature which can be used to test the complete client/server environment, including the Windows desktop, network communications and remote database. The log files generated by the test function combined with STAR/ConfigÆs context sensitive help provide key information to isolate and resolve connection and database problems.
Using STAR/Config, database configuration information can be set up automatically for easy distribution to end users and remote field locations.
Location transparency is provided by STAR/Config. Even when one remote server is substituted for another on the host, no changes need to be made in the application.
Easy identification of servers can be made from pull-down menus. A server is "registered" in terms of its operating system, network and database type.
Fast and efficient troubleshooting is provided by STAR/ConfigÆs comprehensive network diagnostics tool. Also, an on-line Help facility provides possible causes and remedial actions for error messages.
End-to-end testing capability means that client to server connections can be thoroughly tested before going on-line. STAR/Config can evaluate the complete environment, from client Windows application to remote server and DBMS.
